Murshid Hospital Nursing School visits CCH

On 25th January 2012, Murshid Hospital School of Nursing visited Children Cancer Hospital. The team included the Director Ms. Saleema Dosa, Members Mr. Bisham & Mr. Rakesh and the students of Second Year, General Nursing Course. Dr. Shamvil Ashraf, CEO introduced Children Cancer Hospital to the honorable guests and delivered a briefing on Paediatric Oncology.
Ms Arifa Hafeez, ICN spoke on the importance of Infection Control in paediatric oncology. The students were taken to the different parts of Children Cancer Hospital and made aware of the functionalities.

Nursing Course 2011

As part of My Child Matters Program the third five-week course of pediatric oncology for nurses was held from July 19 to August 18 by the Nursing Education Department, CCH. It was attended by 14 nurses from different parts of Sindh. The main aspects of this course included common diseases of pediatric hematology/oncology, infection control, medication recertification, basic life support, palliative care and central line handling. All the modules were followed by test and quiz. The course was followed by certificate distribution ceremony.

International Nursing Day

Closing The Gap: Increasing Access and Equity.

International nurses day was celebrated at CCH on May 31,2011 .it was a well hosted program by students of Pediatric Oncology Technicians which included welcome address ,brief introduction on IND by Ms Arifa Hafeez(infection control nurse/faculty),two skits reflecting on good nursing practices and bad nursing practices ,keeping the mood light staff recited two poems with message of importance of education and career and good patient care which was then followed by a quiz all audience showed good participation .awards for best staff was distributed and then program was concluded by Dr M.Shamvil Ashraf (CEO CCH) with brief motivational speech.

Five weeks course of pediatric oncology for nurses was held from 19th July 18th Aug 2011 at Children Cancer Hospital (CCH) by the Nursing Education Department, Children Cancer Hospital Karachi. The main objective was to train human resource for subspecialty, refreshing their skills and basic nursing knowledge. The main aspects of this course included common disease of Pediatric hematology /oncology, infection control, medication recertification, basic life support, palliative care and central line handling .All the modules were followed by test and quiz .Viva was also taken at the end of the course.

One week supervised clinical practice was also part of training .Multiple teaching strategies were utilized to improve their critical thinking and communication. Major aspects like counseling and professionalism were also discussed.

Certificate distribution ceremony was organized at CCH on Sep 7, 2011 .It was a well attended program by doctors, facilitators and students. Certificates were distributed by Dr Muhammad Shamvil Ashraf (CEO-CCH) and Dr. Syed Ahmer Hamid (Consultant Pediatric Oncologist), Letters for appreciation were also distributed to the facilitators. Asif Ghouri received award for best performance during the course .Dr M. Shamvil addressed the audience emphasizing the importance of good nursing practice and education for improving health care.
